The CURATION⇄FAIR Kyoto Executive Committee (Universal Ad Network Co., Ltd., Nikkei Inc., and the City of Kyoto) has announced the 33 exhibitors for this year's edition of the art fair, running November 6–8, 2026, in Kyoto's Nishijin district at three temples: Myoken-ji, Honpo-ji, and Myokaku-ji.
The fair expands from 19 exhibitors last year to 33 this year and welcomes overseas galleries for the first time in its history. Alongside the fair, a Urasenke tea ceremony, a boat tour of the Shosei-en garden, and a flower ceremony in the Takagamine area offer ways to enjoy Kyoto both before and after visiting.
Advance tickets are now on sale, along with a limited-quantity premium 3-Day Pass that combines three days of fair admission with a tea ceremony overlooking the noted "Tomoe Garden." Centered on the art fair, visitors can also explore temples and gardens and connect with the tea ceremony, craft, and garden culture Kyoto has cultivated over the centuries.
33 Exhibitors Announced, From a Melbourne Artist-Run Space to a Century-Old Antique Dealer
This year's CURATION⇄FAIR Kyoto brings together 33 exhibitors spanning a range of regions, business models, and specialties.
Two Melbourne, Australia-based artist-run spaces, Conners Conners Gallery and CAVES, are joining CURATION⇄FAIR for the first time. They're joined by Bijutsu Kogei Tannaka, an antique dealer with more than a century of history; AWASE gallery, marking its first anniversary; gallery deux poissons, which specializes in contemporary jewelry; MIN GALLERY; Gallery Hokuouki, known for Nordic ceramics; and more, including AISHO, HARMAS GALLERY, CAVE-AYUMI GALLERY, Sprout Curation, and ATSUHIKO SUEMATSU GALLERY — 33 exhibitors in all, gathering in Kyoto's Nishijin district.

A Limited 3-Day Pass for a Deeper Kyoto Experience
Japan's art, crafts, tea ceremony, gardens, and flowers have all developed in close connection with everyday life, architecture, nature, and the changing seasons. CURATION⇄FAIR Kyoto turns its attention to that cultural backdrop as well, offering programs that let visitors explore temples and gardens and experience tea, craft, and garden culture firsthand — not just view and purchase artworks.
At Honpo-ji, overlooking the noted "Tomoe Garden" associated with Hon'ami Koetsu, the Urasenke school of tea holds a tea ceremony. The vessels used at the tea gathering are the work of up-and-coming contemporary craft artists exhibiting in the concurrently held "Ko+Gei" Kyoto 2026 next door at Myoken-ji (the participating artists will be announced at a later date). Taking in a garden layered with nature and history while holding a cup made with a contemporary sensibility and sipping a bowl of tea — it's a special tea experience found only at this fair, where tradition and the present resonate together.
In addition, at Shosei-en (Kikoku-tei), a Place of Scenic Beauty and detached precinct of Higashi Honganji (Otani-ha) near Kyoto Station, a boat tour recreating Edo-period hospitality and a garden tour with a garden concierge are also held. 3-Day Pass holders can join on a first-come, first-served basis.

A Four-Day Flower Ceremony by Kentaro Sugi in Kyoto's Takagamine
In Takagamine, a Kyoto district associated with Hon'ami Koetsu, flower artist Kentaro Sugi presents the flower ceremony "Asagiri no Hana" (Flower of the Morning Mist) for four days only. Rooted in classical ikebana yet not confined to its traditional forms, Sugi explores contemporary expression through flowers. In this "flower ceremony for today," reimagined through his sensibility, visitors witness the life of flowers arranged one after another — and their eventual disappearance without a trace.
The ceremony takes place at ROKU KYOTO, LXR Hotels & Resorts and Shozan Resort Kyoto, both at the foot of the Takagamine mountains, where the Tenjin River (also known as the Kamiya River) runs through the grounds. A forest path wrapped in a thin mist, reminiscent of a scene from The Tale of Genji, leads to the normally closed-to-the-public teahouse "Gyokuan" and the guest house "Hogyokutei." In the quiet air of an autumn morning, this flower ceremony — where the classical and the contemporary meet — becomes a once-in-a-lifetime encounter that can only happen at that moment, in that place. Each of the four days is limited to 15 guests per session.
In the afternoons, a separate program called "Shomo no Hana" (The Flower You Wish For) invites participants to choose a single branch from the season's flowers that speaks to them and arrange it themselves. With Sugi guiding each participant individually through a dialogue with the flower, the experience lets each person's own sensibility and thoughts take shape as a single arrangement.

A few things to keep in mind before visiting:
- Myoken-ji's treasure hall is not part of the special exhibition
- Up to two children of elementary-school age or younger are admitted free per accompanying adult; children of elementary-school age or younger cannot enter unaccompanied by an adult
- Large luggage such as suitcases cannot be brought into the venues, and no cloakroom is available on-site
- Strollers and wheelchairs cannot be used inside the CURATION⇄FAIR Kyoto venues
- Shoes must be removed to view the exhibits inside the buildings

Running Alongside: 19 Contemporary Artists and the Historic Art That Inspired Them at "Ko+Gei" Kyoto 2026
Held across two venues, Myoken-ji and Honpo-ji, "Ko+Gei" Kyoto 2026 showcases the diverse expressions of contemporary craft. At Myoken-ji, works by contemporary artists active in fields including ceramics, metalwork, lacquerware, glass, and contemporary art are on view, centered on past winners of the "Ko+Gei" Award. A collaborative display is also planned, pairing each artist's work with the antique or modern art pieces that inspired their creation — Masaya Hashimoto alongside Hasegawa Tohaku, Saki Tanaka alongside Lucie Rie, Koichi Uchida alongside Takeo Yamaguchi, and more — letting visitors trace expressive connections that carry across eras and genres.
At Honpo-ji, metalworker Shinya Hongo unveils a new piece, "Enso." Drawing on the techniques of armor makers, "jizai okimono" are articulated metal figures that move like the animal they depict. Hongo spent more than two years crafting two of these self-articulating dragons, bringing a new sense of time into the jizai okimono tradition. Lit by candlelight, the dragons move, and light and shadow take on new expression in the space — an installation where masterful metalworking meets fire and shadow in a historic temple setting.
