FAUCHON Hotel Kyoto -- Japan's first gourmet hotel from the Paris-born gourmet brand FAUCHON, located in Kyoto's Shimogyo Ward -- will begin taking reservations on November 1 (Sunday), 2026 for its original Galette des Rois with a Kyo-yaki fève. The hotel's original lucky bag, the "FAUCHON New Year Bag," goes on sale from New Year's Day 2027.
Original Galette des Rois With a Kyo-yaki Fève
The Galette des Rois is a traditional French pastry eaten on Epiphany, January 6. Flaky, fragrantly baked pie crust is generously filled with almond cream, making it a fitting treat for a celebration. It is said that whoever finds the fève, a small ceramic figurine hidden inside, is celebrated as king for the day and enjoys a happy year ahead.
FAUCHON Hotel Kyoto's Galette des Rois comes with an original Kyo-yaki fève and is a popular New Year item every year. Last year's lineup sold out before the reservation period ended, and it returns in 2027 in two flavors.
- Original: A traditional flavor, with crisp pie crust generously filled with almond cream.
- White Bean Paste and Strawberry: A Japanese-style flavor pairing a filling made with white bean paste from Nakamura Seianjo (中村製餡所), a Kyoto bean-paste maker founded in 1908 (Meiji 41), with sweet-tart strawberries.
The 2027 fèves are made one by one by local Kyoto ceramic artists, with a design themed on the sheep, the zodiac animal of the year, and macarons. Which fève is inside stays a surprise until you open it, so you can try your luck for the new year while enjoying a Galette des Rois unique to FAUCHON Hotel Kyoto.

Reservation Notes
- Please make reservations at least 3 days before pickup.
- For phone reservations, the call only secures the item you want. The reservation is confirmed once you visit the store and complete payment.
- Reservations without payment by 3 days before pickup will be canceled.
- Online reservations require prepayment only.
- The Galette des Rois is made to order, so payment must be completed in advance. Payment on the day of pickup is not available.
- A 100% cancellation fee applies for cancellations on the day before and on the day of pickup.
Original Lucky Bag "FAUCHON New Year Bag"
The hotel's original lucky bag, the "FAUCHON New Year Bag," returns as an annual tradition and goes on sale for one week only from January 1 (Friday), 2027 at Pastry & Boutique FAUCHON on the hotel's first floor.
The bag holds a wide variety of items, along with special perks such as a pair invitation to a FAUCHON Hotel Kyoto restaurant and accommodation vouchers. Not knowing what you will get is part of the fun. Quantities are limited.
