FAUCHON Hotel Kyoto Serves Amaou Strawberry Afternoon Tea from January 9, 2027

FAUCHON Hotel Kyoto, Japan's first gourmet hotel from the Paris-born gourmet brand FAUCHON, in Kyoto's Shimogyo Ward, will serve an Amaou strawberry afternoon tea at its tea salon, Salon de Thé FAUCHON, from Saturday, January 9 to Friday, April 16, 2027. The menu is part of "FAUCHON Hotel Kyoto Meets Amaou," a collaboration with Fukuoka Prefecture that returns every year.

An Afternoon Tea Built Around Amaou Strawberries

Made with Amaou strawberries from Fukuoka Prefecture, a premium variety known nationwide, the afternoon tea has been a popular winter-to-spring menu at the hotel among guests of all ages.

Glossy, juicy red Amaou strawberries are used generously in French-style sweets and savories. In the mini parfait, guests pour syrup through the gaps in a heart-shaped cookie and enjoy the sweet-tart Amaou together with ice cream and whipped cream. The savories include a dish made with Fukuoka mentaiko (spiced pollock roe), so the menu features Fukuoka specialties beyond Amaou. Fresh Amaou are also served so that diners can taste the pure fruit flavor of the strawberries. By using Amaou of various grades, the menu highlights the individual character and flavor of each berry.

Along with the menu, guests can enjoy a welcome tea brewed with "Millennium Water" drawn from the hotel's own well, as well as FAUCHON tea in their favorite flavor.

About Amaou from Fukuoka Prefecture

The name "Amaou" comes from the Japanese words akai, marui, ookii, umai, meaning red, round, large, and delicious. Fukuoka Prefecture, where Amaou is grown, ranks second in Japan and first in western Japan in strawberry production. Grown mainly in areas such as Itoshima and Yame, Amaou are produced with thorough quality control and carefully managed growing conditions by farmers, and are loved as a premium strawberry. Proud of their fruit as "top-level strawberries," the growers produce Amaou with rich fruit flavor and depth, which FAUCHON Hotel Kyoto serves on its menus from January to April.
