Godzilla Meets Karamucho — Two Monster Collaboration Snacks Launching from May 18

Koikeya has partnered with TOHO's iconic monster franchise Godzilla to release two new snack products: "Godzilla VS Karamucho Sriracha's Counterattack" and "King Ghidorah VS Suppa Mucho Seafood General Attack." Both snacks launch at convenience stores nationwide on May 18, 2026 (Monday), with a wider rollout to supermarkets and other general retail channels on May 25, 2026 (Monday).

The collaboration was sparked by the 30th anniversary of "Burning Godzilla" — the iconic form from the 1995 film Godzilla vs. Destoroyah — whose glowing, fiery appearance resonated strongly with the bold, intense flavor profile of the Karamucho brand.

The Products

Godzilla VS Karamucho Sriracha's Counterattack (52g) combines Karamucho's signature spicy umami with the tanginess and garlic punch of sriracha sauce, resulting in a flavor described as spicy-umami like never before. The V-cut chip shape provides a satisfying bite with lingering deliciousness. The packaging comes in two designs — one featuring Burning Godzilla and the other featuring Karamucho's beloved character "Hii-obaachan" (Morita Tomi) — that form a complete battle scene when placed side by side.

King Ghidorah VS Suppa Mucho Seafood General Attack (52g) combines the bright sourness of vinegar and lemon with the rich umami of oyster, scallop, and shrimp, creating a "sour and savory" flavor profile. The packaging features a gold background evoking the spread of seafood broth flavor, with King Ghidorah coiling around the logo and the Suppa Mucho character "Hii-Hii-obaachan" (Morita Fumi) depicted in singed defeat — a playful nod to the Godzilla series' drama and spectacle.

Both products are open-priced.

About Godzilla

Godzilla first appeared in 1954 and has captivated audiences worldwide ever since. The 70th anniversary film Godzilla -1.0 (2023) was a major hit both domestically and in North America. The Hollywood co-production Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire surpassed ¥84.5 billion in global box office revenue. The next Japanese-produced film, Godzilla -0.0, directed by Takashi Yamazaki, is scheduled for release in Japan on November 3, 2026 — "Godzilla Day."

Burning Godzilla, the form featured in this collaboration, appeared in Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995), the final entry in the Heisei VS Godzilla series. Its body glows a striking red as if burning, an image that continues to hold a strong following among fans today.

King Ghidorah, another key figure in this collaboration, has been Godzilla's formidable rival since Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964), appearing across many entries in the franchise.
