Hakone Suishoen to Reopen on April 9, 2026, with Refreshed Interiors and New Japanese Cultural Experiences

Hakone Suishoen (箱根・翠松園), a historic inn in Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture, is set to reopen on April 9, 2026 (Thursday). The property had been closed since September 2025 for renovations.

A Historic Retreat Steeped in Over a Century of Character

Hakone Suishoen is centered around the "Momiji (Maple)" restaurant, a nationally registered tangible cultural property built in 1925. The 23-room property is arranged with four guest building wings surrounding this landmark structure. Every room features a private in-room hot spring bath sourced from the inn's own spring, allowing guests to relax in body and mind while taking in the garden scenery that changes with the seasons. The main building also includes an outdoor bath equipped with a sauna, as well as a spa by globally acclaimed luxury brand Sisley. The Momiji restaurant serves refined Japanese cuisine and teppanyaki that have been honed over the years, and the property also features BAR "Ito" (伊都).

Entering its 19th year of operation, the inn undertook a comprehensive refresh to enhance the guest experience, restoring the property while keeping the existing ambience intact — renewing furniture and lighting throughout.

A Moment of Rest on a Century-Old Veranda

The "Momiji" restaurant, built in 1925, carries the weight of a hundred years in its quiet, dignified presence. To invite guests to make the most of this tranquil setting, the inn has arranged a relaxation time on the veranda. From check-in until sunset, guests are welcome to enjoy complimentary drinks of their choice. A selection of classic Japanese tea accompaniments — cherished for generations — is also offered to round out the experience. A maple tree estimated to be over 300 years old grows beside the veranda, lending a sense of gentle, unhurried time.

Additional new experiences have been introduced, including an in-room "fragrance play" activity where guests blend their own preferred scents, as well as a matcha comparison tasting — a range of Japanese-inspired activities to complement the stay.
