Tokyo Dome City LaQua — a commercial complex in Bunkyo-ku bringing together shops and restaurants, a spa, and attractions — is hosting a real-life mystery-solving game based on Here Comes the Black Witch!!, the long-running Kodansha Aoi Tori Bunko series with more than 5 million copies in print. The event, titled Here Comes the Black Witch!! – A Day You Become a Black Witch Apprentice –, runs from Saturday, August 1, 2026 through Sunday, January 31, 2027, produced by Haregake Co., Ltd., a company that has organized more than 700 events nationwide.
The free, walk-around mystery-solving game takes place throughout LaQua. It's designed to appeal both to fans now in their 20s who read the series as elementary school students during its original run, and to families with young children. Because the challenge is set inside LaQua's air-conditioned facilities, it also makes for an easy summer outing away from the heat.
Event Details
The story begins when the player finds a mysterious "Black Witch Drill" somewhere inside LaQua and gets pulled into a commotion involving Choco and Gyuubid, ending up appointed as a "black witch apprentice." Using their own smartphone, participants explore LaQua and solve puzzles by combining information from the drill (booklet) with clues found around the complex. Staging that has players recite spells from the story out loud adds to the feeling of stepping into the world they read as children. The story is an original tale set during the characters' elementary school days from the original serialization, featuring many of the "Class 5-1" classmates such as Mai, Meg, Tokaiji, and Asakura, along with exchanges between Choco and Gyuubid that original fans will recognize with a smile.
How to Participate
Participation is free: pick up a drill (booklet) from a rack inside LaQua, then scan the QR code printed on it to access the event's dedicated game site and begin. Combine clues found around the complex with information in the booklet to solve each puzzle; clearing the final puzzle brings the story to its ending and completes the game. A smartphone is needed to enter answers.

Comment From Original Author Hiroshi Ishizaki
Original author Hiroshi Ishizaki shared the following comment:
"Here Comes the Black Witch!! is becoming a mystery-solving game?! And as training for a black witch apprentice, no less? I have to say, I'm surprised — but it also sounds like a ton of fun.
So, of course, I tried it myself right away... and, well, it's tough.
But then again, that's how much training it takes to be able to use magic.
So go ahead and become Choco yourself, and take on Gyuubid's strict black witch training!"
