Hilton Osaka (Kita-ku, Osaka; General Manager Mark Meany) is marking its 40th anniversary with the launch of an original private cask whisky. Bottled from a single cask carefully selected from single malt whisky "Sakurao," distilled at SAKURAO DISTILLERY in Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima, the limited-quantity whisky is being served at the hotel's restaurants and its cafe & bar.
The cask was chosen by a team with deep knowledge of and passion for whisky, led by Hilton Osaka General Manager Mark Meany — who hails from Ireland, long known as home to whisky-making — and Director of Food & Beverage Stephan Kanzler. The selected whisky is defined by a rich aroma reminiscent of raisins and caramel. On the palate, a mellow sweetness evoking brown sugar harmonizes beautifully with a pleasant berry-like acidity, leading into a long, complex, layered finish — a special flavor befitting the milestone of the 40th anniversary.
The whisky is bottled using the "cask strength" method, in which little to no water is added after the whisky comes out of the cask, preserving the original spirit's bold aroma and rich flavor without dilution to adjust alcohol content. Adding a splash of water to taste can further open up the aroma and shift the balance of sweetness and acidity, offering another way to enjoy how the flavor evolves. The original label was designed around a view symbolizing Osaka, expressing the hotel's 40-year history alongside the city, and features a 40th anniversary logo to convey gratitude for the years so far and a sense of momentum toward the future.
