A bagel specialty shop called Hokukama Bagel is opening in Kamakura, Kanagawa on April 17, 2026. Housed in a renovated old folk house (kominka), the shop is built around the concept of "totonou" — a Japanese notion of finding balance and clarity through everyday moments.
Not Just Another Bagel Shop

Hokukama Bagel is designed as an experiential space where visitors can naturally unwind, rather than simply a place to grab a bite.

Through a garden, natural light and breezes, coffee, and bagels, guests are invited to engage all five senses in a quiet, restorative moment.
A Space Built Over 10 Months
The shop was created from the ground up — from property acquisition to interior finishing — taking approximately 10 months to complete. Much of the interior was finished through DIY work, giving the space a warmth and character that off-the-shelf design cannot replicate.

The story behind the shop's creation is considered just as meaningful as the finished space itself.

Gentle on the Body Bagels

The bagels are made with Hokkaido-grown wheat and rice flour, crafted to be mild and easy on the body — something you could enjoy every day without feeling heavy.
The lineup includes:

- Kamakura Sweet Red Bean Bagel
- Rice Flour Bagel
- Sesame Rice Flour Bagel
- Mentaiko Butter Bagel
- Various Bagel Sandwiches
Future Plans

Plans are in place to make use of the garden for events, workshops, and programs that combine food with hands-on experiences. The shop aims to become a new kind of community space open to the local neighborhood.
