Bread, Espresso & Takumishuku Opens October 24 in Shizuoka City as the Brand's First Shizuoka Store

Bread, Espresso & Takumishuku (パンとエスプレッソと匠宿), a new branch of the Omotesando bakery cafe Bread, Espresso & (パンとエスプレッソと), will open on Saturday, October 24, 2026, in the Takumishuku area of Maruko, Suruga Ward, Shizuoka City. It is the brand's first store in Shizuoka and the ninth store of the "47 Prefectures 'Gotochi Pan-Es' Project" (ご当地パンエス) that the brand runs with H.I.S. Co., Ltd. (HIS). The company behind the brand operates 77 stores in Japan and overseas, and the new store is run by Sozosha Co., Ltd. (株式会社創造舎) of Shizuoka City.

A Space Surrounded by Satoyama and Traditional Crafts

Bread, Espresso & Takumishuku sits in the Takumishuku area of Maruko, Suruga Ward, Shizuoka City, surrounded by Shizuoka's rich satoyama nature. Centered on Sunpu no Kobo Takumishuku (駿府の工房 匠宿), one of Japan's largest traditional-craft experience facilities, the area gathers restaurants, galleries, accommodations and bathing facilities. It is a place where artisans' handwork and people's daily lives meet, and where traditional crafts are still very much alive.

At Takumishuku, artisans of many traditional crafts are at work, including Suruga Take Sensuji Zaiku (駿河竹千筋細工) bamboo craft, dyeing, woodworking, lacquer and ceramics. Through craft experiences and galleries, visitors can get close to the artisans' skills and the appeal of making things by hand, which is one of the features of this area.

The store welcomes guests in a space with lighting made with Suruga Take Sensuji Zaiku, noren curtains dyed with tea, and lacquered walls. Craft pieces are not only part of the interior: they are also used as the vessels for actual meals, so diners can enjoy crafts by "using" them as well as "seeing" them.

Visitors can enjoy bread and coffee in the middle of nature, see artisans' handwork, and eat from craft pieces. The store offers a time in which food, craft and nature come together, an experience that can only be had here.

Sakura shrimp sautéed until fragrant are mixed into avocado tartar and placed on toasted "Mu," then topped with more sakura shrimp for a rich toast. A balsamic sauce served alongside changes the flavor as you eat.

"Mu" is the signature product of Bread, Espresso &, a rich loaf of shokupan (white bread) kneaded with plenty of butter.

White chocolate ganache is mixed with Shizuoka's specialty wasabi and roasted macadamia nuts, then sandwiched in French bread. The aroma of wasabi goes very well with white chocolate.

Comment from the Owner

At Sunpu no Kobo Takumishuku, visitors can encounter Shizuoka's historic traditional crafts, including Suruga Take Sensuji Zaiku, which has been handed down since the Imagawa and Tokugawa eras, as well as ceramics, dyeing, woodworking and lacquer.

Today, it serves as a base for passing handwork skills on to the next generation.

Traditional crafts tend to be seen as "intimidating" or "something special," but their value originally deepens when they are used in everyday life. To let people experience the value of handed-down handwork as something closer to them, we felt that an experience and a place were needed where people unconsciously touch the warmth of handwork through food, which everyone enjoys on a daily basis.

The thinking of Bread, Espresso &, which carefully weaves each day of daily life, resonated with the craftsmanship of artisans who put their hearts into every piece of handwork. This opening comes from that, as a place that seamlessly connects tradition and daily life.

We aim to be a store loved by people in the community, incorporating Shizuoka's ingredients and culture.
