Hotel GrandBach Sendai is set to hold a one-night-only cocktail event on Friday, March 27, 2026, to mark the birth anniversary of Johann Sebastian Bach, the composer whose name the hotel chain bears. The "Spring Cocktail Event" runs from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on the hotel's 7th-floor bar and lounge — a space normally reserved for hotel guests.

Located about a five-minute walk from Sendai Station's east exit along Miyaginodori, Hotel GrandBach Sendai features a pipe organ in its lobby and regularly stages live piano and violin performances for guests. For this special evening, the lobby live music will also be available to event attendees.

Guest Bartender: Tsukuru Sato

Guest bartender Tsukuru Sato

The event is organized by Proximo Japan, and the cocktails will be crafted by Tsukuru Sato, a Sendai-born head bartender who now works at Bar LIBRE in Tokyo's Ikebukuro neighborhood — a venue ranked in Asia's 50 Best Bars 2025. Sato's style draws on experience across Mexican, Italian, and Spanish cuisine, combining creativity with technical precision.

He also holds the "Comrade of Cheese" certification from the Cheese Professional Association and produces the "#chiizu kaiseki" (cheese kaiseki) concept at Bar LIBRE, elevating cheese bites into a Japanese aperitivo experience.

His competition credentials include:

In 2026, Sato became a brand ambassador for Kyoto Mead, a honey brewery based in Kyoto.

The Cocktails and Cheese Pairings

Three original cocktails will be offered at the event, each based on a distinct spirit:

  • Bushmills Single Malt — from Bushmills Distillery in Northern Ireland, one of the world's oldest distilleries
  • 1800 — a premium tequila brand from Mexico
  • Kraken Black Spiced Rum — a rum from Trinidad and Tobago, blended with over 11 spices

Each cocktail comes with a cheese garnish selected by Sato to complement the flavors, making for a pairing that blends international spirits with his cheese expertise.
