Hotel Granvia Osaka Decorates for Summer With Osaka's Traditional Naniwa Hon-zome Tenugui

Hotel Granvia Osaka (3-1-1 Umeda, Kita-ku, Osaka City; General Manager: Shinji Abe) is decorating its interior from Saturday, July 11 through Wednesday, September 2, 2026, with tenugui hand towels dyed using Naniwa Hon-zome, a traditional industry of Osaka and Sakai that is designated as a national traditional craft.

The hotel hopes the decorations will let guests from Japan and abroad feel closer to Osaka's traditional culture and take home a memorable moment from their trip. Photo spots and mini andon lanterns made with the tenugui bring the cool, beautiful look of Osaka's traditional dyeing to the hotel's public spaces this summer.

To help guests feel closer to Osaka's traditional culture, the hotel is setting up photo spots and mini andon lanterns made with Naniwa Hon-zome tenugui throughout its public spaces. Naniwa Hon-zome is a dyeing technique called "chusen," developed in Osaka during the Meiji era and unique to Japan, and it is designated as a national traditional craft. Dye is poured through both sides of layered fabric, coloring the thread through to its core and producing beautiful patterns with no distinction between front and back. Because every step is done by hand, the tenugui carry the soft blurring and bleeding that only a craftsperson's work can produce.
