The Sadokoro Niigata Project (Representative: Sauna Hōraijyu, Koichi Tochibori; Secretariat: Hoshiyu Co., Ltd., Takeshi Ebitsuka) will hold "Hojosai" (豊蒸祭), Japan's largest sauna stamp rally, for 44 days from October 25 (Saturday) to December 7 (Sunday), 2025.
Now in its fourth year, this annual event features a tour of diverse sauna facilities throughout the prefecture, making it a major sauna celebration that happens once a year.
Last year, the event attracted over 7,000 participants with 25,000 stamps collected, generating significant excitement for Niigata's sauna scene and creating a vibrant gathering place for sauna enthusiasts.
This year, new sauna facilities have been added to the stamp rally, bringing the total to 29 facilities, making it the largest event to date.
A distinctive feature of Hojosai is the wide variety of sauna facilities included. Beyond large bathing complexes, participants can experience log house saunas with wood-burning stoves, outdoor saunas where the sea or river serves as natural cold plunges, stylish hotel saunas, and much more - facilities that vary in location, environment, and business type, each offering unique characteristics.
Particularly noteworthy this year is the participation of recently opened facilities. Newly renovated public baths, private cottage saunas, and stylish hotels in hot spring towns are among "those saunas" that sauna enthusiasts have been curious about. Be sure to check them out.
