The Ginza area has long been one of Japan's premier commercial and cultural centers, with a rich tradition of theater culture that draws visitors from both Japan and abroad. Drawing on this cultural backdrop, Hotel Amanek Ginza East launched this workshop to offer guests — particularly those visiting from overseas — a chance to understand and experience Japanese aesthetics firsthand.
Kumadori is the distinctive face makeup worn by kabuki actors. Far more than cosmetic decoration, the lines and colors are used to express a character's personality and the intensity of their emotions. This workshop gives participants the opportunity to learn about the history and meaning behind kumadori, then create their own masks to take home.
