Mitoro Kanko Kajuen, located in the northeastern part of Kakogawa City, Hyogo Prefecture, offers fruit-picking experiences throughout the year. Now, one of its most anticipated seasonal programs is back: the sumomo (Japanese plum) harvest experience, available for only about two weeks a year.
What Makes Mitoro Kanko Kajuen's Sumomo Special
At Mitoro Kanko Kajuen, the sumomo harvest experience runs each year around the time of the rainy season. Unlike commercially distributed plums — which are typically picked before they fully ripen and mature during shipping — the plums here are left on the tree until they reach peak ripeness. The result is fruit with noticeably richer flavor, harvested at its best.
Because the timing depends heavily on the weather, the window is short and unpredictable. That exclusivity has made the experience a draw for visitors from Osaka, Wakayama, and other regions, with the event drawing large crowds every year.
