Kamisuwa Onsen Shinyu Opens Solo-Traveler Room "Yuyu" with Women Traveling Alone in Mind

Kamisuwa Onsen Shinyu, a hot spring inn in Suwa City, Nagano Prefecture, has opened "Yuyu," a guest room created exclusively for solo travelers. After a soft opening in August 2026, the room fully opened on October 1. It is the only solo-traveler room in the inn.

Background

Demand for solo travel has been steadily growing in recent years. According to a survey by the Jalan Research Center of Recruit Co., Ltd. (じゃらん観光国内宿泊旅行調査2026, announced on July 15, 2026), solo travel accounts for 18.5% of domestic overnight trips, a share that has risen for two consecutive years, showing that solo trips have become established in the market.

Guest room

Many hot spring inns, however, have rooms designed for two or more guests. Kamisuwa Onsen Shinyu has also received inquiries from solo travelers and had to decline them, which weighed on the inn. As the requests increased year by year, so did the wish to offer a room where guests can always stay alone.

The inn therefore renovated a room that had been left untouched during past renovations of the building and prepared it exclusively for solo guests. The interior and facilities were designed with women traveling alone in mind, the group that made the most inquiries. Although it is a single, modest room, the inn is pleased to be able to respond to the solo-travel requests it could not meet before.

"山神" Japanese-Western Room (Partial Lake View)

"山神" was renovated in March 2024. There are only three "山神" rooms in the inn: Japanese-Western rooms where Lake Suwa and the mountains can be partially seen from the window. The room is carefully furnished with attractive wallpaper and fabrics and an Asian-style bench space by the window. Twin beds and futons together can accommodate up to five guests.
