Kawana Hotel Revives Its Historic Second Lobby as a Classic Film Screening Venue This Autumn

Kawana Hotel (1459 Kawana, Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture) is bringing classic cinema back to one of its most storied rooms this autumn. From Tuesday, September 1, through Friday, November 13, 2026, the hotel hosts "A Classic Film Screening for Long Autumn Nights," an event open exclusively to overnight guests.

The screenings take place in the Second Lobby, a historic space that once served as a movie theater in the early Showa era. Back then, it was a lively social hub frequented by nobility, business leaders, and cultural figures, who gathered there in the evenings to watch films as part of the resort's after-dark entertainment. This autumn, Kawana Hotel revives that tradition, inviting today's guests to enjoy beloved films of yesteryear in the same historic setting.

The lineup includes Roman Holiday and Casablanca, along with I Married a Witch, Singin' in the Rain, and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, starring Marilyn Monroe, who once stayed at the hotel on her honeymoon. Guests can savor the enduring charm of these timeless classics in a space steeped in history and character.

On autumn nights at Kawana, with the sound of the waves in the background, guests can reflect on those who once enjoyed films in this very room while spending an elegant evening that only a classic hotel can offer.
