Kawana Hotel in Ito, Shizuoka Prefecture, is running a special program called "HAPPY RAINY DAY" from Monday, June 15, 2026 until the official end of the rainy season in the Tokai region. The program is triggered on days when the rainfall probability for Ito City reaches 70% or higher as of noon the previous day.
The hotel overlooks Sagami Bay, with views stretching from Mount Fuji to the Boso Peninsula and the Izu Islands. Founded by Kichiro Okura, the property was shaped by his deep affection for this coastal scenery, and the grounds take on a distinctly atmospheric character when rain falls. The HAPPY RAINY DAY program was designed to make the most of those moody weather days.
Program Contents
The day begins with the Kawana Film Screening, held in the hotel's Second Lobby — a space that retains its original projection room from the early Showa era, when the hotel regularly screened films for guests. A short video capturing the hotel's history and highlights is shown starting at 10:00 AM, running approximately 30 minutes.
Following the screening, the Kawana History Tour departs from the First Lobby at 10:40 AM. A guide leads the group through the hotel, pointing out rare pieces of furniture and artworks that have been part of the property for decades, along with behind-the-scenes stories known only to longtime staff.
Both the film screening and the history tour are free of charge, and open to day visitors as well as hotel guests.
Additionally, a Rainy Day Discount is available on rainy days: private hot spring baths "TSUKI" and "UMI" inside the Brisa Marina spa facility, as well as the billiards room, can be used at half price. Note that access to the Brisa Marina hot spring facility is reserved for hotel guests.
