Autumn-Winter Limited Nigori Sake "Gorohachi" Begins Shipping on October 13, 2026

Kikusui Shuzo Co., Ltd. (based in Shibata, Niigata Prefecture) will begin shipping its autumn-winter limited nigori sake "Gorohachi" (五郎八) on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

Gorohachi is a country-style nigori sake made with high-quality rice grown in Niigata, a renowned rice-growing region, and fermented slowly so that the full flavor of the moromi (fermenting mash) can be enjoyed. It is characterized by a freshly made taste and the grainy texture of the rice, and each sip delivers a rich umami. The sake is in season from the chilly days of autumn through the harsh cold of winter. Since its release in 1972 (Showa 47), it has been enjoyed by nigori sake fans for more than 50 years, and it continues to offer the same familiar flavor.

About "Gorohachi"

A Rustic "Inaka Sakaza" Nigori Sake

Gorohachi is a nigori sake with a bold, unpretentious appearance. It is made with 100% Niigata-grown rice and finished with a flavor like old-style doburoku, letting drinkers enjoy the full taste of the rice. With its rich, full-bodied sweetness and the distinctive texture of the moromi it contains, each sip brings a sense of nostalgia. It is described as a true "Inaka Sakaza" (rustic sake gathering) nigori sake.

*What is "sakaza"? A place for a sake banquet or drinking party. In a broader sense, it can also mean a sake brewery.

Gorohachi Cocktails: Delicious Diluted, Too

The grainy texture of the rice and the rich, full-bodied sweetness spread across the mouth, and a deep umami gradually unfolds. Drinking it straight and well chilled is recommended, but it can also be used as a cocktail base. Diluting it lowers the alcohol content while keeping its simple sweetness and rich taste, so it can be enjoyed in many different variations.

Gorohachi mixed with milk or orange juice

Popular mixes include milk and orange juice. A 1:1 ratio is recommended.

Gorohachi mixed with caramel or matcha milk

Mixing it with caramel or matcha milk also makes an adult-style dessert drink.
