To coincide with "Girl with a Pearl Earring — Masterpieces of 17th-Century Dutch Painting, A Miraculous Return," the Vermeer exhibition now open at the Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka, Lake Biwa Hotel (Hamacho, Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture; General Manager: Yoshikazu Maeda) is offering a new stay plan on its Premier Luxury Floor that includes an exhibition ticket, on sale from September 4 (Friday), 2026.
This marks a rare opportunity to see Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring, one of his greatest masterpieces, return to Japan for the first time in 14 years, since the 2012 Mauritshuis exhibition (organized by The Asahi Shimbun and others) drew roughly 1.2 million visitors. The exhibition runs for only about five weeks, exclusively in Osaka. Guests can reach the venue by taking the hotel's free shuttle bus to Otsu Station, then continuing by JR.
The Premier Luxury Floor offered in this plan comes in two room types: "Aqua," located on the hotel's top floor and themed around "water" with a blue-toned interior, and "Vista," located on the 4th floor, where every room comes with an Airy Bath (a bath with a view). Vermeer's masterpiece Girl with a Pearl Earring returns to Japan for the first time in 14 years. The exhibition brings together fine works of Dutch painting, including Vermeer's early piece Diana and Her Nymphs, offering a comprehensive look at 17th-century society, daily life, and the breadth of its art.
