MOMOTARO JEANS, the denim brand originating from Kojima, Okayama Prefecture, is opening MOMOTARO JEANS FUKUOKA on May 15, 2026 (Friday). The new store marks the brand's first foray into Kyushu and serves as a key location for communicating the value of Japan denim to Asia and beyond.

A New Hub Connecting to Asia

After relaunching its brand identity in July 2024 and opening MOMOTARO JEANS KYOTO as its flagship expression, the brand is now establishing its second signature location in Fukuoka. The city's long history as an international gateway to Asia — where diverse cultures and sensibilities converge — made it a natural choice for a store aimed at expanding the brand's global reach. From this Fukuoka base, the brand intends to bring the craftsmanship and spirit of denim-making cultivated in Kojima to markets across Asia and the wider world.

Store Design by Architectural Unit AS

The store on Kokutai-doro avenue in Daimyo, Fukuoka, is designed by AS, the architectural unit formed by Jun Aoki and Masatoshi Shinagawa — the same team behind MOMOTARO JEANS KYOTO. AS is known for carefully calibrating the relationship between a building and its urban surroundings, elevating the quality of experience while allowing the architecture itself to recede.

Store Concept

The store presents a quietly composed exterior from the street. Stepping through the small entrance, visitors encounter a courtyard garden featuring cycad trees — a scene evoking the landscapes of the Seto Inland Sea, where the brand has its roots. This garden acts as a buffer between the bustle of the street and the calm of the interior, while also drawing natural light and air into the store.

Just as the quality of a garment's lining enriches the experience of wearing it, the courtyard serves as a kind of "inner lining" for the store — filling the interior with greenery and natural light, and enriching the experience from arrival through fitting. On mild days, the doors facing the garden can be opened wide, blurring the boundary between inside and out. The space is, before anything else, a garden quietly present in the midst of the city.
