A One-Day Premium Tour of Morimura @ Museum with Yasumasa Morimura on May 30

On May 30, 2026 (Saturday), a special one-day event will take place at the private museum Morimura @ Museum, where contemporary artist Yasumasa Morimura will personally guide attendees through the exhibition. The event is hosted by the online art community "Bijutsu Henshubu" (Bijuhen).

Yasumasa Morimura Leads a Tour of Morimura @ Museum

Honored with the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays (Kyokujitsu Shojusho) in the spring 2026 decoration ceremony for his long-standing contributions to art and culture, Yasumasa Morimura has consistently explored the question of "What is 'I'?" since his debut work Portrait / Van Gogh in 1985. Through self-portrait works in which he assumes the guise of various figures, he continues to probe this enduring theme.

Art journalist Yoshio Suzuki (former deputy editor of Brutus), who has built a deep relationship with Morimura through years of coverage, will serve as navigator for the event. Attendees will have the rare opportunity to hear directly from Morimura about the background of his works, behind-the-scenes production stories, and his vision in establishing Morimura @ Museum in 2018, all while touring the exhibition together.

The group exhibition "Wunderkammer of Us, Vanish. — Yasumasa Morimura / Kenji Yanobe / Miwa Yanagi —" is currently on display at the Nakano-shima Museum of Art in Osaka, and this event offers an ideal opportunity to explore Morimura's work even more deeply in conjunction with that exhibition.

About Yasumasa Morimura

Yasumasa Morimura

Born in Osaka City in 1951. He presented his first self-portrait work, Portrait / Van Gogh, in 1985. Since then, with the consistent theme of "self," he has continued to produce works centered on "self-portraits assuming the guise of someone." His creative process involves meticulous research into the subject figure or artwork, followed by the creation of dioramas, studio sets, costumes, and makeup, allowing him to approach his subjects from a unique perspective. In 2018, he established M@M (Morimura @ Museum) to house archives and self-curated exhibitions.
