New Era, the global sports and lifestyle brand, and Kansai Yamamoto — the fashion label founded by designer Kansai Yamamoto (1944–2020), who made history in 1971 as the first Japanese designer to stage a fashion show in London — are joining forces for their first-ever collaboration. The collection goes on sale Thursday, April 9 at New Era stores across Japan (excluding New Era Mini Nagoya Station), the official online store, and at New Era retailers nationwide.
The collection draws on iconic imagery from Kansai Yamamoto's archives, including reinterpreted tigers, dragons, and kanji motifs that have long defined the brand's aesthetic. It also features graphics by Terry Johnson (Teruhiko Yumura) — the pioneering artist behind the "hetauma" ("bad-is-good") illustration style — taken from the invitation to Kansai Yamamoto's 1981–82 Fall/Winter Paris Collection. The result is a 20-piece lineup bursting with energetic Japonisme across caps, hats, T-shirts, and bags.
