OMO7 Asahikawa by Hoshino Resorts is introducing a new service designed to enhance visits to Asahiyama Zoo: the "Asahiyama Zoo Backpack." Available for both sale and rental, this customizable backpack launches on July 1, 2026 — the anniversary of the zoo's founding — and is available exclusively to hotel guests.
Inside the backpack are three original items created in cooperation with Asahiyama Zoo: the "Asahiyama Zoo Book," the "Asahiyama Zoo Sticker," and a water bottle. Guests can also add optional items such as a leisure sheet, binoculars, and a hat to build a setup that suits their visit.
A Customizable Backpack for a More Enjoyable Zoo Visit
Many guests staying at OMO7 Asahikawa come specifically to visit Asahiyama Zoo — especially families with young children during the summer season. The hotel already offers concept rooms such as the Polar Bear Room, Penguin Room, and Ezo Brown Bear Room, along with an "Asahiyama Zoo Lecture" series featuring exclusive insider information. Building on this, the Asahiyama Zoo Backpack was created to help visitors get more out of their trip to the zoo.
The original Zoo Book and Zoo Sticker included in the backpack are exclusive to OMO7 Asahikawa and cannot be purchased anywhere else. Guests can also add optional items — such as binoculars and a leisure sheet — to customize the backpack to their liking before heading out.
Original Items Created in Cooperation with Asahiyama Zoo
The "Asahiyama Zoo Book" and "Asahiyama Zoo Sticker" were developed in cooperation with Asahiyama Zoo. The Zoo Book covers animal ecology and behind-the-scenes details about the zoo's behavioral exhibits — content that would otherwise be easy to miss on a regular walk-through. The "OMO Ranger," the hotel's neighborhood guide character, also appears in the book with unique one-point commentary.
Both items can be taken home after the visit, letting guests look back on their trip or bring them along on a future zoo visit.
Exclusive Water Refill Service for Backpack Holders
Guests carrying the Asahiyama Zoo Backpack will find an extra perk waiting inside the zoo. In full cooperation with "Asahiyama Zoo Club," the organization's shop will refill the water bottle included in the backpack — a small but practical benefit that supports a comfortable day out.
