Onitsuka Tiger Opens World's Largest Global Flagship Store in Shinjuku

Onitsuka Tiger opened the world's largest global flagship store in Shinjuku, Tokyo, on Friday, July 10.

A Vertical Narrative in Design

The store's design is built around a "vertical narrative" woven from materials, color, and the design cultures of Japan and Italy. Different materials and motifs unfold across each floor, creating a spatial composition that lets visitors feel the brand's story as they move through the building.

From the facade to the calm, refined space on the top floor, each floor blends meticulous Japanese craftsmanship, a nod to Italian design, and the energy of a contemporary city, expressing Onitsuka Tiger's own identity. The result is a consistent architectural experience that carries the brand's heritage forward while pointing toward the future.

A Tiger-Yellow Facade as a New Shinjuku Landmark

The exterior is built around the concept of a monolith standing in the modern city, featuring a bold tiger-yellow concrete facade. Combining a flat texture with a striped pattern expresses fidelity to materials along with rhythm and precision, paying homage to Japanese craftsmanship and the dynamic urbanity of Tokyo. The striking yellow facade gives the store a presence as a new Shinjuku landmark and sets the stage for the experience that continues inside.

Four Floors, Every Product Line

The store spans four floors totaling 1,837 square meters and carries the brand's full range, from "Heritage (Onitsuka Tiger)," a modern reinterpretation of the brand's archive, to "Contemporary (ONITSUKA TIGER)," which features the collections shown at Milan Fashion Week, and "Formality (THE ONITSUKA)," the brand's formal shoe line.

1F greets visitors with a striking space built from bold materials and colors. Black flooring paired with warm Giallo Siena marble expresses Onitsuka Tiger's signature colors with both energy and refinement. The essential lines and tactile material expression reflect Japanese design sensibility, while the contrast of black and yellow creates a modern, dynamic space.

2F builds a more dynamic, graphic atmosphere around black terrazzo with a distinctive stone grain, accented with yellow. Light gives the space rhythm and depth, expressing the sense of movement at the brand's core. The area dedicated to the globally popular "NIPPON MADE" series, which symbolizes Onitsuka Tiger's craftsmanship, features furniture inspired by 1970s Italian design — warmth, character, and craftsmanship passed down across eras that highlight the brand's contemporary sensibility.

3F is a calm, refined space inspired by the quiet elegance of Japanese interiors. Rosso Lepanto marble, satin brass, and satin-finished steel create a refined contrast of materials. Geometric forms and gallery-like displays come together in a space where visitors can take their time with the brand's signature collections.
