About Primal Scream

Formed in 1982 in Glasgow, Scotland by Bobby Gillespie and Jim Beattie, Primal Scream has built a long career marked by continual musical evolution. Their debut album Sonic Flower Groove drew on 1960s folk and psychedelic sounds, while their self-titled second album leaned into garage rock, New York punk, and rock 'n' roll from the 1960s and 70s.

Their breakthrough came with Screamadelica, which brought in techno-side producers Andrew Weatherall and The Orb to create a fusion of acid house, techno, dub, and soul that cemented the band's place in the music scene. Subsequent albums continued to explore new territory: Give Out But Don't Give Up incorporated American southern sounds, while Evil Heat showed an affinity for German rock influences. Across their career, the band has continued to shift its sound while maintaining its core identity.
