Rokko Alpine Botanical Garden (六甲高山植物園) on Mount Rokko in Kobe is holding its "Species Cyclamen Exhibition" (原種シクラメン展) from Saturday, September 26 to Sunday, November 29, drawing plant lovers and tourists alike.
The original species of cyclamen, a plant well known as a garden flower, is a popular autumn highlight at the garden. The exhibition features a colony of about 500 plants of the species cyclamen Cyclamen hederifolium, along with potted species cyclamen on display. Seedlings, including species cyclamen, are also on sale.
About Cyclamen
Cyclamen (family Primulaceae, the primrose family), familiar as a garden plant, grows naturally in low mountainous areas along the Mediterranean coast. The name comes from "kyklos," the Greek word for "circle," in reference to the way the flower stalk coils up after the flower has bloomed (the same root as the English word "cycle"). This feature is seen only in the species cyclamen and never in cultivated varieties.
