Colorful Hot Air Balloons Take to the Skies at Saga's 34th Mayor's Cup & 35th Wakaba Cup

The 34th Mayor's Cup and 35th Wakaba Cup hot air balloon competition will take place over two days on June 6 (Saturday) and 7 (Sunday), 2026, at the Kasegawa Riverside in Saga City.

The competition brings together experienced veteran pilots and up-and-coming young pilots from across Japan. Colorful hot air balloons rise into the morning sky, and visitors can enjoy watching skilled flights up close — a signature sight in Saga City, known as "Balloon Town."

Tethered Balloon Ride Experience

A tethered balloon ride experience is also available during the event. A rope-secured balloon slowly ascends, offering visitors a special aerial view. First-time visitors and young children are welcome to participate in this popular activity.

  • Registration opens: AM 6:00 (may open earlier depending on conditions)
  • Capacity: First 100 people per day
  • Fee:
    • Elementary school students and above: ¥1,500
    • Preschoolers: Free

Rides may be cancelled due to weather and other conditions.
