Japanese sake brand SAKE HUNDRED (サケハンドレッド) has opened applications for a pre-lottery sale of its flagship sake BYAKKO (百光, read "Byakko"), priced at ¥38,500 including tax. Applications began on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, and include a New Year-only zodiac label called "Kissho Hitsuji" (吉祥羊, the auspicious sheep). BYAKKO is the brand's signature product, and a cumulative 430,000 people have applied to its lottery sales so far.

The New Year-Only Zodiac Label Features the Auspicious Sheep
In addition to the regular BYAKKO, this pre-lottery sale offers the BYAKKO New Year Edition 2027 in limited quantities. The taste of BYAKKO stays the same, while the bottle gets a special look to mark the start of the new year. It can be enjoyed as a gift for loved ones at the end of the year and the start of the next, or as a bottle to celebrate the new year.
The design is inspired by "Kissho Hitsuji" (吉祥羊). In ancient China, the character for sheep (羊) was linked to the character 祥 (an auspicious sign), so the sheep was regarded as a symbol of happiness and good fortune. Just as the characters 美 (beauty) and 善 (goodness) contain 羊, the sheep also stood for beauty and good things. Its calm life within a flock is also said to represent family well-being and human connections.
On the BYAKKO New Year Edition 2027, two sheep carrying various lucky charms on their backs bring good fortune into the new year. It is a special BYAKKO available only this winter, made with the wish that the coming year will be a happy one.
BYAKKO Named Category Champion at Oriental Sake Awards 2026
In the results announced on September 9, 2026, at the Oriental Sake Awards 2026 (OSA), BYAKKO won the champion title in the Ginjo category (Light & Aromatic), and BYAKKO Shiboritate Nama-zake (しぼりたて生酒, freshly pressed unpasteurized sake), a spring-limited sake, won the champion title in the Nama-zake (unpasteurized sake) category. OSA is one of Asia's leading sake competitions, and winners are selected by a panel of 25 to 35 experts, including Sake Samurai, sommeliers, sake specialists, and journalists. The results show that BYAKKO's taste is highly regarded not only in Japan but also by sake experts overseas, including in Asia.
The zodiac-label BYAKKO New Year Limited Edition 2027 is also planned for sale in Hong Kong and Taiwan.
