Sapporo TV Tower is bringing back its stair climbing event this September and October, on select weekends and public holidays, after a well-received run in spring.
Participants walk up all 456 steps from the 1st floor to the 90m-high observation deck. It's a favorite for anyone looking to get some exercise or simply stay active, offering a fun way to move the body, refresh, and enjoy a real sense of accomplishment along the way. Joining the stair climb also costs less than the regular observation deck admission fee.
This time, six different types of "achievement certificates" are up for grabs. Visitors are encouraged to take part every week and try to collect the full set.
A new "stamp card" is also being introduced. Participants receive one stamp per stair climb, and collecting three stamps earns a Sapporo TV Tower original goods item. Those confident in their stamina can even attempt the full 456-step climb three times in a single day.
Anyone who reaches the top can also take on a giant candy lottery ("Garapon"). It's an event that children and adults alike can enjoy.

Fee: Adults ¥600 / Elementary and junior high school students ¥300
Reception: Head to the dedicated stair climbing reception desk outdoors on the 1st floor.
Reward: Present the "achievement certificate," received at the observation deck after completing the climb, at the 1st floor reception desk for one chance at the giant Garapon lottery.
- The giant Garapon is about three times the size of a normal one, standing 135cm tall.
- The event may be cancelled in the event of rain or strong wind.
The outdoor staircase — currently, due to elevator renovation work, only the west side, facing Odori Park, can be seen.
The observation deck's "Kowaso" glass window: glass extending down to your feet and its outward tilt create a real sense of thrill, and leaning against it sometimes produces a mysterious creaking sound that doubles the fright factor. Rest assured — it's safe.
