The City Becomes the Stage, Cultures Intersect — SHIBUYA MUSIC SCRAMBLE 2026 Set for October 17-18

The Shibuya Music Festival Executive Committee (Executive Committee Chair: Kenji Onishi, Chairman of the Shibuya Dogenzaka Shopping District Promotion Association) has confirmed that SHIBUYA MUSIC SCRAMBLE 2026, the 21st edition of the Shibuya Music Festival, will take place over two days on October 17 (Saturday) and October 18 (Sunday), 2026.

Born out of the large-scale redevelopment around Shibuya Station, the festival was originally launched to encourage visitors to explore the neighborhood and to support local shopping districts anchored around the redeveloped area. Centered on music — one of Shibuya's core cultural threads — the festival has grown over the years into a citywide celebration, with public live performances at commercial facilities and event spaces starting from Dogenzaka, alongside a wide range of programs at large venues such as LINE CUBE SHIBUYA.

This year's concept is "The city becomes the stage. Cultures intersect."

Turning the whole of Shibuya into a stage, the festival takes on a new form as a music festival where music, dance, fashion, anime, and street culture all come together.

Roads, parks, and other public spaces, shopping districts, and commercial facilities across the neighborhood will host performances spanning music, dance, fashion, anime, and street culture, unfolding simultaneously in different parts of Shibuya and blending into a single event.

Shibuya has long been a birthplace of trends across music, dance, fashion, anime, and other cultures. For its 21st edition, the festival aims to draw on the creativity and drawing power the neighborhood has built up over the years to further energize the town and foster the next generation of culture.

Come enjoy an even more powered-up edition of the Shibuya Music Festival this autumn.

A message from Kenji Onishi, Chair of the Shibuya Music Festival Executive Committee

This year marks the 21st edition of the Shibuya Music Festival.

Last year's 20th edition drew more than 35,000 visitors and featured over 20 different programs, closing out as a signature city festival that brought together people of many genres, generations, and cultural backgrounds in Shibuya.

This year, we hope to further enrich the festival's programming with anime, technology, international collaboration, and cross-generational exchange, drawing out new possibilities for the "Shibuya Music Festival" brand beyond the conventions of a typical local event.

Thank you for your continued support.

A message from Ken Hasebe, Mayor of Shibuya City

Born in Shibuya and having grown alongside the neighborhood, the Shibuya Music Festival marked its milestone 20th edition last year.

Shibuya has long been a hub for music, fashion, sports, and many other cultures — a city that has given rise to new genres and movements through the exchange of different cultures and values, and that continues to lead trends both in Japan and around the world.

This year's theme for the Shibuya Music Festival is "The city becomes the stage. Cultures intersect."

The whole of Shibuya becomes the stage for two special days where music, dance, fashion, anime, and street culture come together.

We hope this year's festival once again creates many encounters and exchanges, sharing Shibuya's appeal both at home and abroad, and that everyone enjoys the event.

About the Shibuya Music Festival

Built around Shibuya City's slogan "A city that turns differences into strength" and its "YOU MAKE SHIBUYA" concept, the Shibuya Music Festival is a city festival where people living by diverse values and different paths in life encounter, connect with, and blend into a wide range of musical genres. It is a cultural program rooted in the neighborhood, aiming to carry forward the music culture Shibuya has nurtured over the years while continuing to serve as a home for Tokyo's, and Japan's, entertainment culture going forward. The festival also supports the artists who take flight from its ever-evolving stage.
