Shizukuishi Prince Hotel (Takakura Onsen, Shizukuishi-machi, Iwate-gun, Iwate Prefecture; General Manager of Shizukuishi District: Koji Nagasawa) will host a summer evening event, "Shizukuishi Summer Night Picnic! ～星と灯りと、雫石の夏夜。～" (Stars, Lights, and a Summer Night in Shizukuishi), from Saturday, July 18 to Monday, August 31, 2026.
Situated on a plateau approximately 430 meters above sea level, Shizukuishi Prince Hotel offers an escape from the daytime heat, with a wide range of evening activities designed for families and groups to enjoy a memorable summer night under a sky full of stars. Highlights include the 雫石銀河ロープウェー (Shizukuishi Galaxy Ropeway) with its sweeping starry views, night garden BBQ, marshmallow roasting, LED golf ball night putting, and original drinks at 高倉BASE (Takakura BASE).
Food
Night Garden BBQ
A summer BBQ experience set against the illuminated nighttime ski slope. Equipment and supplies are provided, so guests can come empty-handed. In addition to BBQ, the garden area offers marshmallow roasting for children (free of charge), cold beer, and shaved ice.
During the event period, the buffet restaurant "Prince Room" will also host a "Hawaiian Fair 2026" with a tropical theme. From August 8 (Saturday) to 12 (Wednesday), the "Grill Dining" event will feature local Iwate ingredients.
Activities
Daytime and evening activities abound. The 雫石銀河ロープウェー (Shizukuishi Galaxy Ropeway) takes guests up to a summit with an expansive view of the night sky. Guests can also try night putting using LED golf balls, rent bicycles, or enjoy footgolf on Tohoku's first Japan Footgolf Association-certified course — making the most of Shizukuishi's natural surroundings around the clock.

"Star Night Reading" — Themed on the 130th Anniversary of Kenji Miyazawa's Birth
Celebrating 130 years since the birth of Kenji Miyazawa, whose stories are set in Iwate, two IBC Iwate Broadcasting announcers — Hiroki Kamiyama and Nozomi Kaiya — will give readings of stories connected to Shizukuishi.

Perseid Meteor Shower Observation Night
One of the three great meteor showers, the Perseid meteor shower, will be observed on August 12.

Takakura BASE — "Summer Base Camp"
The base station building of the Shizukuishi Ropeway will operate as a seasonal activity center during summer. During the event period, guests can enjoy Sapporo Beer and other beverages at a "beer time" session, original summer drinks, shaved ice, and handheld fireworks at the adjacent "Fireworks Area."
