Six Senses Kyoto Serves a Gluten-Free Chestnut Afternoon Tea and Chestnut Parfait From October 23

Six Senses Kyoto, a nature-focused luxury resort in the heart of Kyoto (General Manager: Nicolas Black), is holding an autumn chestnut promotion at its seasonal dining venue "Sekki" and its café "Café Sekki" from October 23 to December 21, 2026.

Seasonal Dining Sekki serves menus that follow the traditional Japanese calendar of 24 solar terms. Based on the idea that nature and people are one, the menus use seasonal ingredients that the body craves in each season, offering a wellness-minded dining experience built on the hotel's "Eat With Six Senses" philosophy.

The promotion period runs from the solar term Soko (霜降, "Frost Descent") to Taisetsu (大雪, "Heavy Snow"), when autumn turns to winter and the body begins to prepare for the cold. Chestnuts, which contain nutrients such as vitamin C, potassium, and dietary fiber that are useful for preparing for winter, appear in a lineup of gluten-free afternoon tea, parfait, takeout sweets, and drinks.

Gluten-Free Chestnut Afternoon Tea With Japanese Touches

The "Koyomi (calendar) Afternoon Tea" at Seasonal Dining Sekki takes chestnuts as its theme from the solar term Soko to Taisetsu. Every savory and sweet item on the stand uses chestnuts. Delicate Japanese flavors such as steamed chestnut yokan and chestnut kinton are paired with rich yet rustic Western items such as a chestnut verrine, a chestnut choux cream, and necci (Italian-style crepes).

All of the sweets and savories are gluten-free. Following the hotel's food philosophy "Eat With Six Senses," the dishes use sustainable ingredients and simple cooking methods that bring out each ingredient's natural flavor. The tea is timed to the season in which Japan's 24 solar terms and the chestnut harvest overlap.

Seasonal Chestnut Parfait

Seasonal chestnut parfait

The seasonal chestnut parfait is served at three venues: Seasonal Dining Sekki, Café Sekki, and the cocktail bar Nine Tails.

Made with plenty of chestnuts, the parfait is designed to stay light to the last bite. It combines a range of flavors, including mellow pumpkin, the bitterness of tea, and a fermented blood orange savarin with umami behind its acidity. A mille-feuille of marron cream and custard sits on top of the glass for a pleasant texture.

Seasonal Drinks: "Drinkable Chestnut" and "Wellness Chestnut"

Two smooth drinks bring out the sweetness of chestnuts.

Hojicha Marron Latte (back of the photo, ¥1,950) is a two-layer drink that combines the toasty flavor of chestnut with fragrant hojicha and smooth milk to bring out the chestnut's sweetness. With a delicate texture and a well-balanced taste, it is described as a "drinkable chestnut" that tastes even more like chestnut than a chestnut.

Marron Hot Chocolate (front of the photo, ¥1,850) is a rich, melting drink that combines chestnut with two kinds of chocolate and cream. Chestnuts and cacao are both seeds that store plenty of the nutrients a plant needs to grow, and they contain vitamins and dietary fiber that people need as well, so the drink is also suggested as a wellness option.

Café Sekki also offers two homemade chestnut sweets that emphasize the combination of ingredients and texture. They can be eaten in during café hours or taken out as a companion for a walk around Kyoto in autumn.

Chestnut Shibukawa-ni Cake (¥900 each) is a financier-based cake with caramel, rum, and Japanese chestnut paste. Two whole chestnuts simmered in their inner skins (shibukawa-ni) are baked into each cake.

Chestnut Tart (¥1,500 each) is a rich cake made with an almond tart filled with chestnut cream and plenty of shibukawa-ni chestnuts.

Both are gluten-free.
