Sumiyoshihama Resort Park (1165-2 Morie, Kitsuki City, Oita Prefecture) will hold what is billed as the earliest beach opening in Oita Prefecture on Saturday, May 23, 2026. The ceremony marks the start of the marine sports season at the resort, which has earned a "Water Quality AA" rating from Oita Prefecture's seawater quality survey (FY2025 results).
To celebrate the occasion, the marine shop inside the park will host live demonstrations of banana boat rides and wakeboarding, offering visitors a chance to experience the thrill of summer water sports before the peak season begins.

Rock Oyster Festival at Kitsuki Terrace
Alongside the beach opening, Kitsuki Terrace is holding the "Oita Prefecture Rock Oyster Festival in Kitsuki Terrace." Fresh rock oysters cultivated in the waters of Oita Prefecture — including those from Saiki City — are available for a limited summer period. Prized for their plump, rich, and creamy flavor, these oysters represent one of the signature seasonal tastes of an Oita summer.
