Safe and Convenient Winter Sightseeing with the Eco Passport Bus
Teshikaga Town introduces the limited-time "Teshikaga Eco Passport" bus service for convenient access to the area's top attractions.
The service connects major destinations including Lake Mashu, Lake Kussharo, Mount Io, Kawayu Onsen, and Mashu Station, allowing passengers to board and alight freely.
The two-day unlimited pass starts from 2,000 yen per adult and is available for advance online reservation.
Additionally, this year marks the launch of a luggage delivery service from stations to hotels in the Kawayu Onsen area.
Visitors can enjoy hands-free sightseeing without worrying about carrying their bags.

Winter-Only Natural Phenomena and Scenic Beauty
Located in the heart of Eastern Hokkaido, Teshikaga Town sits largely within Akan Mashu National Park, offering abundant natural scenery. The town features world-renowned Lake Mashu, known for its exceptional transparency, and Lake Kussharo, Japan's largest caldera lake.
Winter brings unique natural phenomena including frost-covered trees and diamond dust. During the coldest months, Lake Kussharo's frozen surface develops cracks that rise upward, creating the mystical "Omiwatari" (God's Crossing) phenomenon.

Warm Up in Kawayu Onsen After the Cold
Born from the still-active volcanic Mount Io, Kawayu Onsen ranks among Japan's strongest acidic hot springs, featuring a tingling sensation and powerful sterilizing properties. The area developed as a therapeutic bathing spot for laborers during the Meiji era sulfur mining boom.
A newly installed wooden walkway and terrace along the hot spring river in the town center creates the "Kawayu Bedrock Terrace." Nearby hotel source springs allow visitors to observe hot spring water bubbling up from the bedrock.
