Umeda Sky Building Observatory Transforms into a Sunflower Field 173 Meters Above Osaka

The Kuchu Teien Observatory at Umeda Sky Building is bringing a seasonal sunflower installation to its indoor floor this summer. Titled "Sky Sunflower Garden 空に咲くひまわりの庭," the display runs from July 3 (Friday) to August 31 (Monday), 2026, at 173 meters above ground level.

The floor will be filled with sunflowers in bloom, set against the blue sky visible through the building's large windows — creating what the venue describes as the closest sunflower field to the sky. The contrast between the vibrant yellow flowers and the clear sky above aims to offer a sense of openness rare in an urban setting.

A popular circular-window photo spot at the observatory will also be decorated in a sunflower theme during this period. The combination of natural light streaming through the window and the surrounding flowers makes for a photogenic setting, and the scene changes with the shifting colors of the sky throughout the day.

Summer Parfait at Cafe SKY 40

On the 40th floor, cafe SKY 40 is introducing a summer-limited sunflower parfait (¥1,500) to coincide with the installation. The parfait features smooth vanilla soft-serve ice cream topped with mango sauce, a sunflower macaron with detailed petal work, cornflakes for crunch, orange jelly, whipped cream, and fruit. A chocolate accent shaped like a sunflower leaf adds a finishing touch to both the flavor and the presentation.
