In Kyoto's Narutaki neighborhood, Yatsugare — a restaurant known for its rich chicken paitan oden with occasional Italian touches — is starting a once-a-month, reservation-only tasting course led by Italian chef 濱口烈, beginning Sunday, August 30, 2026.
Tucked into a quiet residential street in Narutaki, Yatsugare's everyday menu centers on paitan oden made with hinai-jidori chicken, blending Italian technique and sensibility into its cooking. The new course runs as a separate, once-a-month event on top of that regular menu.
Framed around the idea of "a restaurant that appears only one night a month," the course draws on ingredients not used in regular service and welcomes just seven guests each time it runs.
The lineup changes completely every month. Built around seasonal ingredients, the seven-course menu blends the delicacy of Japanese cooking with Italian technique into an innovative menu that is never repeated — each month's course is a one-time-only encounter tied to that particular season and day.
An Italian Chef Behind Each Course
The course is led by chef 濱口烈, who has built his experience mainly around course cuisine. He draws out the character of each ingredient, keeps the seasons at the center of the menu, and shapes each course so that every dish carries its own story.

A Hideaway on a Quiet Narutaki Street
The course is served at Yatsugare's hideaway location, set on a quiet residential street in Narutaki, Kyoto. In a calm space removed from the hustle and bustle, only seven guests can experience the evening at a time.
By refreshing the ingredients and presentation every month, Yatsugare aims to be a restaurant that offers something new each time guests return, sending out one-time-only dining experiences from Narutaki, Kyoto that can only be tasted there.
Chef's Comment
"Rather than making the same dishes every month, I face ingredients that can only be met in that particular season and think through each course dish by dish. On this one day, I want guests to fully enjoy dishes I can't express during regular service. I hope to share the kind of one-time-only experience that only a quiet place like Narutaki can offer."
