YORUNOYO, Yokohama's signature illumination event, returns from Friday, December 4 to Wednesday, December 30, 2026. Beyond the city's historic buildings and towers, this year's event brings the harbor's waterline and ships into the display, creating a new nightscape that only Yokohama can offer.
The centerpiece of the event is Highlight of Yokohama, a five-minute spectacle in which the entire city comes alive with synchronized light and music. This year, the restaurant cruise ship Marine Rouge joins the lineup of illuminated venues, bringing participation to a record 47 facilities.
At the Osanbashi venue, the pier's rooftop becomes the stage for one of Japan's largest participatory outdoor projection mapping displays. At Yamashita Park, a 10-meter cube of light creates a space filled with light and sound.
Set in Yokohama, one of The New Three Japanese Cities with the Most Spectacular Night Views, YORUNOYO 2026 is one of Japan's largest illumination events.

Kujiraland (Osanbashi Pier Venue)
One of Japan's largest participatory outdoor projection mapping displays
The entire rooftop of Osanbashi Pier becomes the display area, with a 25-meter whale of light swimming at its center in one of Japan's largest projection mapping displays. Visitors can enjoy an immersive experience surrounded by light on the multi-level wooden deck known as Kujira no Senaka.

A striking 10-meter cube of light takes center stage, offering a variety of digital art within a space filled with light and sound.
During Highlight of Yokohama, the display also syncs with the light and music performances illuminating Yokohama landmarks such as Yokohama Marine Tower and the Hikawa Maru, uniting the entire venue in one special moment.

Carbon-Neutral Initiatives (Made from Green Energy)
Over 75% of the electricity used for the event comes from renewable sources, including biofuel generators powered by used cooking oil, and the event achieves an effective 100% renewable energy usage rate through the combined use of carbon offsets. Sustainability considerations, including decarbonization and resource reuse, also extend to the event's promotional materials and overall operations.
The New Three Japanese Cities with the Most Spectacular Night Views
Established in October 2015 by the Night View Tourism Convention Bureau, Japan's only industry organization dedicated to night view tourism, this designation aims to promote night view tourism in Japan and abroad. Based on voting by certified Night View Tourism Specialists nationwide, the top three cities are recognized as The New Three Japanese Cities with the Most Spectacular Night Views. Yokohama was newly certified in the 2024 selection, marking the first time a city in the greater Tokyo metropolitan area has received this honor.
Reason for Yokohama's selection (comment from the Night View Tourism Convention Bureau):
"In recent years, nighttime events such as YORUNOYO and Yokohama Sparkling Twilight* have expanded, particularly around the bay area, setting an example for other cities. Beyond the appeal of the night views themselves, the diverse range of content that makes the most of these resources has brought great satisfaction to many Night View Tourism Specialists. The area was praised for its growing appeal as an urban destination, including the fluid, ever-changing beauty of its night views as the city itself evolves."
