OBI PORCELAIN and Seto Ware
Seto ware is one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns and is a globally rare pottery production area that has continuously produced ceramics for approximately 1,000 years. One of its major characteristics is that both earthenware and porcelain are produced there, giving rise to the term "setomono" (literally "things from Seto," meaning pottery in Japanese).
The clay mined in Seto boasts world-class quality with almost no iron content, resulting in a white finish when fired that beautifully accentuates colors and patterns drawn with glazes. Each precious Hina doll is created by layering OBI PORCELAIN's desire to deliver "treasured heirlooms to display year after year" with beautiful colors onto forms fired by skilled artisans using uniquely blended clay.
