ARFLEX ReStore, the directly run store that arflex Japan (headquartered in Shibuya, Tokyo; President and CEO: Taku Hoshina) operates inside Futako Tamagawa's Tsutaya Electrics, will hold "ReStore Sustainable Market" from Saturday, September 19 to Monday, November 9.
ARFLEX ReStore is built around four "Re" concepts: Reuse (accessories made from leftover fabric and leather), Repair (furniture maintenance), Resale (outlet sales of display items), and Refresh (upcycled furniture). Through these, the store draws out the full potential of furniture and materials, pursuing a form of circulation that carries pieces across generations.
The event brings together a range of content for enjoying a sustainable lifestyle up close, including sales of upcycled furniture and accessories made from fabric and leather offcuts left over from furniture production, along with workshops that put those offcuts to use. Visitors can learn about the background behind each piece and discover new appeal in the materials while finding a one-of-a-kind item to live with going forward.

Finding a One-of-a-Kind Piece
The market offers upcycled furniture — including sofas taken in as trade-ins from customers and carefully refreshed at ARFLEX's own facility — along with rare, discontinued models and former display pieces, all at special prices limited to the Sustainable Market. A wider selection than usual will be on hand during the event, with the lineup rotated roughly every two weeks. Because these pieces can be delivered faster than made-to-order furniture, the market is also recommended for anyone looking to furnish a home quickly, such as during a move or renovation.
Embroidery Artist atsumi Collaborates With the "arflex ECO PROJECT"
The "arflex ECO PROJECT" makes use of the high-quality fabric and leather offcuts left over from furniture production. Launched in 2013, the project works with sewing factories in Japan to turn high-quality fabric and leather — much of it Italian-made — into everyday items such as bags and room shoes, without letting any of it go to waste.
This time, the market also features limited-edition items made in collaboration with popular embroidery artist atsumi. Each piece carries the warmth of handwork and its own individual character.
Every year, 10% of sales from "arflex ECO PROJECT" items is donated to the Japanese Red Cross Society.
Three Workshops for Experiencing Sustainability Up Close
Workshop 1: Leather Animals & Keyring
Date: September 24 (Thu), 25 (Fri), 26 (Sat)
Using leather offcuts left over from furniture making, participants create palm-sized horse and cow mascots along with a woven-design keyring. Children are welcome to join alongside their parents.
Workshop 2: Embroidered Cushion Cover
Date: October 8 (Thu), 9 (Fri), 10 (Sat)
Using a Janome computerized sewing machine with an embroidery function, participants make a 40 cm square cushion cover, choosing from a wide range of alphabet fonts and one-point designs for the embroidery.

Workshop 3: Original Tote Bag
Date: October 8 (Thu), 9 (Fri), 10 (Sat)
Participants make a bag using fabric from the MARENCO sofa and leather tape from the NT chair. Combining offcuts from two of arflex's signature long-selling models, it's a special item available only at this event.
