Beer Hall Lion Ginza Nana-chome, operated by Sapporo Lion Co., Ltd., is celebrating the 92nd anniversary of its founding on April 8, 2026 (Wednesday). The venue is widely recognized as Japan's oldest surviving beer hall and holds an important place in the country's dining and cultural heritage.
A Historic Beer Hall in the Heart of Ginza
The Ginza Lion Building, which houses the beer hall, was constructed on April 8, 1934 (Showa 9), and the beer hall opened on the first floor on April 26 of the same year. In February 2022, the building was registered as a nationally designated Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure). The interior has remained almost entirely unchanged since its founding, and generations of guests have returned time and again, cherishing the familiar atmosphere and memories they have made here.
"Hanami Beer Hall Concert" — Sakura Decor and Live Performances
Through April 13 (Monday), the beer hall has transformed its interior with an extensive cherry blossom decoration as part of an "Ohanami Beer Hall" (Hanami Beer Hall) seasonal event.
On the founding anniversary day of April 8 (Wednesday) and the final day of the Hanami Beer Hall on April 13 (Monday), an "Ohanami Beer Hall Concert" will be held, featuring live singing and music performances. Guests can enjoy the spring atmosphere with freshly poured draft beer — served using the venue's traditional single-pour method — alongside the live music.

The "Ginza Roast Beef" is one of the beer hall's signature dishes, available in limited quantities each day and known to sell out regularly. On April 8 only, it will be offered at a special founding-year price of ¥1,934 (tax included) — a nod to the year the building opened — and will be available throughout the entire day.
Sausage Trio Platter
A classic beer hall staple, the Sausage Trio Platter (featuring Arabiki Frank, Weisswurst, and Leberkäse) will be available at a special price of ¥920 (tax included) on the anniversary day.
