Benzaiten Releases Coconut Warabimochi Made with Nagoya's Uiro Steaming Technique

Nagoya-based confectionery shop Benzaiten has released a new "Coconut Warabimochi" starting June 1, 2026.

The creation takes inspiration from uiro — a beloved Nagoya confectionery — with Benzaiten applying the traditional steaming-and-kneading technique to develop a new style of warabimochi. The resulting dough achieves both a satisfying chewiness and a smooth, melt-in-the-mouth texture, blending the softness of traditional warabimochi with the distinctive feel of uiro.

At the heart of the flavor is coconut milk, carefully proportioned to ensure a full and lingering fragrance. The filling pairs this with Benzaiten's own lightly sweetened white bean paste, whose gentle sweetness brings out the tropical coconut aroma with every bite.

The wagashi is best enjoyed well-chilled from the refrigerator, which allows both the chewy-smooth texture and the refreshing coconut fragrance to come through at their finest — a cool treat well-suited to the warmer months.
