Benzaiten's "Jari Mochi" Hits 2 Million Units Sold, New Pistachio Flavor Now Available

Benzaiten's "Jari Mochi" is a wagashi made by wrapping rich, flavorful peanut cream inside soft mochi. It takes its name from the distinctive sandy, gritty texture — reminiscent of gravel (jari in Japanese) — that comes from the peanut filling.

The sweet is known for the contrast between the soft mochi exterior, the deep sweetness of the peanut cream, and the crunchy texture. Since its launch in 2022, it has won a loyal following and has now surpassed 2 million units sold.

For this new addition to the lineup, the makers explored nut ingredients that would pair well with the original Jari Mochi, and landed on pistachio — often called the "queen of nuts." Pistachio powder is used to bring out a fuller pistachio flavor, and the gentle aroma of pistachio complements the characteristic peanut sweetness, layering the nuttiness to create a well-rounded depth of flavor.

Pistachio Jari Mochi

While Iranian pistachios are widely known, American pistachios were chosen for this product. Their mild and refined flavor keeps the pistachio character present without overpowering the peanut, prioritizing a balanced harmony between the two nuts. The result is a new take on wagashi that combines pistachio, peanut, and mochi.
