Calbee's limited-edition "Potato Chips Shoyu W Mayo" goes on sale at convenience stores throughout Japan starting Monday, May 25, 2026. The product features two types of soy sauce and twice the mayonnaise flavor compared to the original "Shoyu Mayo" lineup.
Background
The Calbee Potato Chips series is a long-selling brand that reached its 50th anniversary in September 2025. The "Shoyu Mayo" flavor was first launched in 1998 and was sold year-round as a standard product until February 2024. Following discontinuation, Calbee received a large number of requests from customers expressing regret and hoping for its return. In response, the brand relaunched in April 2025 as "Shoyu W Mayo," an upgraded version with double the mayonnaise flavor, available for a limited period at convenience stores. The overwhelmingly positive reception — with customers saying things like "So glad it's back!" and "Please make it a permanent product!" — led to this second release.
Compared to the previous version, this edition has been further refined to deliver a richer, more intense taste better suited to convenience store customers. The base soy sauce blend has been enhanced, resulting in a flavor where the mayonnaise richness is clearly noticeable alongside the deep, layered soy sauce taste.
