New Orange Peel Butter Joins Calpis's Tokusen Butter Lineup, On Sale from August 3

A new flavor is joining the Tokusen Butter lineup. Calpis Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Tokyo; President: Yasuo Yanagihara), the dairy products subsidiary of Asahi Soft Drinks Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Tokyo; President: Kayoko Kondo), is releasing "Calpis Tokusen Butter Kinsei Orange Peel Butter" in limited quantities from August 3, available through the Calpis Tokusen Butter plus Online Shop (https://shop.calpis-butter.jp/) and Enoteca Online (https://www.enoteca.co.jp), operated by wine specialist Enoteca Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Tokyo; President: Shinji Hori).

Features

  • A flavored butter made by adding orange peel to Calpis Tokusen Butter, developed in collaboration with Enoteca.
  • The soft richness of Calpis Tokusen Butter is layered with the orange peel's refreshing sweetness and a hint of bitterness and acidity, balanced to pair well with lighter drinks such as champagne and white wine.
  • As a new flavor in the lineup, it can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. Sliced to your preferred thickness and eaten as is, it offers the aroma and lingering finish that comes from the butter and orange peel's individual flavors coming together. It can also be placed on crackers or baguette, paired with cheese and nuts alongside a drink, or added to toast for a slightly special addition to an everyday breakfast.
  • The package features a vibrant orange design inspired by the orange peel, making it suitable as a gift for someone special.

Development Background

In December 2024, as the first collaboration with Enoteca, "Calpis Tokusen Butter Kinsei Raisin Butter," which combines Calpis Tokusen Butter with raisins, was test-released, followed by a full release in April 2025. Development focused on pairing well with alcohol, with flavor adjustments made based on Enoteca's input to achieve a rich taste that complements wine. Thanks to the clean aftertaste of Calpis Tokusen Butter, it also pairs well with coffee and tea in addition to alcohol, and has been well received since its release.

This time, as the second flavored butter in the series, "Orange Peel Butter" was developed to offer a lighter counterpart to Raisin Butter's rich, full-bodied taste, giving people more ways to choose a flavor based on the occasion or mood, and a new way to enjoy butter.

About Calpis Butter

Calpis butter began with the idea of putting to use the cream separated from raw milk during the process of making the lactic acid bacteria drink Calpis, which has been enjoyed for more than 100 years. It was first released for commercial use in 1942 and was praised from the start by top chefs at leading French restaurants, earning a reputation as a secretly guarded "phantom butter" rarely spoken of outside the industry. It later led to the creation of Calpis Tokusen Butter for home use.
