Belief handkerchief printed in full color with the protagonists on high-quality cotton fabric

"Belief" is printed in full color with the protagonists on high-quality cotton fabric.

The handkerchief is made by OLD-FASHIONED COMPANY (オールドファッション株式会社), based in Setagaya, Tokyo, which runs the handkerchief specialty store H TOKYO. The company produces MANGACHIEF, a handkerchief series with manga motifs. So far it has presented designs based on works by Rumiko Takahashi, Taiyo Matsumoto, Sensha Yoshida and Junji Ito, as well as Ashita no Joe (あしたのジョー), presenting the manga culture Japan takes pride in before the world as handkerchief designs. Sales of the Rumiko Takahashi, Taiyo Matsumoto and Sensha Yoshida handkerchiefs have ended.

Belief

Belief handkerchief, priced at 2,750 yen including tax, 100% cotton, 52 x 52 cm

"Belief": ¥2,750 (tax included), 100% cotton, size 52 × 52 cm

"Belief" is a handkerchief designed with the protagonists, who live in different eras yet are connected by a single conviction, arranged in a layout reminiscent of celestial orbits.

All printing and sewing is done at factories in Japan. The fine printing shows even the delicate brushwork of the original manga, and the finish is one fans are sure to appreciate.

The 100% cotton fabric has a smooth feel and a moderate thickness, and it is durable and absorbent, making it a highly functional handkerchief. It comes in a comic-sized dedicated package that you will want to keep on a bookshelf. A speech-bubble-shaped window lets a famous scene peek through, a unique touch that also makes it a good fit for gifts.

About the Design and the Making of the Handkerchief

When planning MANGACHIEF, OLD-FASHIONED COMPANY surveyed its staff on which manga they wanted to handle and whether anyone knew a particular work well. Many people at the company were fans of Orb: On the Movements of the Earth, so they packed the handkerchief with details through repeated discussions, from the selection of scenes to extract, the layout, and the colors to the product name, all from a fan's perspective.

The team re-read the original manga and picked out famous scenes and lines. They arranged the chosen panels like a puzzle, then took them apart and rearranged them again and again. Even after the design was complete, they kept exchanging color specifications and detailed printing instructions with the factory and ran test prints. It took about a year to reach the release.

The handkerchief can be unfolded and displayed or carried around, offering a variety of ways to enjoy it.

The manga is by Uoto (魚豊) and is set in 15th-century Europe. In an age of severe suppression of free speech, its characters advocate the heliocentric theory against the geocentric theory.
