Courtyard by Marriott Kyoto Station to Open November 16, 2026, Near Kyoto Station's Hachijo East Exit

JR Central Group (*) and Marriott International have announced the opening date and reservation start date for Courtyard by Marriott Kyoto Station, a hotel the two have been developing together.

Unlike JR Central Group's past developments built around its station buildings and existing real estate holdings, this hotel is being built on newly acquired property, making it a symbol of the group's effort to raise the value of the cities along its rail lines.

By making full use of Kyoto Station's convenience as a transportation hub, the hotel aims to offer a stay where guests can feel connected to the local community, culture, and people — positioned as a hotel that serves as a base for exploring Kyoto, and intended to contribute to the city's continued development and appeal.

  • The window sashes use aluminum recycled from Tokaido Shinkansen cars, and the entrance lobby uses "Miyako Somaki" timber sourced from Kyoto City, reflecting the hotel's use of regional resources and consideration for the environment.

All-Day Dining "The 8th Gate"

The 8th Gate logo

The restaurant's name draws on its location at Hachijo-guchi, the gateway entrance to Kyoto Station, and on the hotel being the eighth property operated by JR Central Hotels — "eight" (八, hachi) being regarded as an auspicious, ever-widening number. "Gate" reflects a wish for the restaurant to be a place where encounters with Kyoto's charms and new discoveries begin.

At "The 8th Gate," the restaurant serves a breakfast buffet supervised by Yukako Hayashi (Professor, Kyoto University; Technical Advisor, JR Central Hotels), along with menus using Kyoto ingredients suited to different times of day. The cafe & bar area operates as a cafe serving light meals and coffee during the day, and as a bar in the evening offering live music, including piano performances, and sake from local breweries. Through its food and relaxed atmosphere, the restaurant aims to provide guests with a rich stay experience.
