Cross Hotel Kyoto, a lifestyle hotel situated along Ryoma-dori near Kawaramachi-Sanjo in central Kyoto, is refreshing its "Concierge Map Uji Edition" free paper starting May 29, 2026. The update adds the Ogura area—currently drawing attention as an emerging visitor destination—to the existing lineup of Uji highlights.
The Concierge Map is produced in both Japanese and English for guests from Japan and abroad.
As traveler needs around Kyoto continue to diversify, there is growing interest in off-the-beaten-path experiences and the kind of local knowledge that comes from living in a place. Beyond the familiar Uji highlights—matcha culture and sites connected to The Tale of Genji—the renewed map offers a fresh angle on what the area has to offer. Every spot featured has been personally visited by the hotel's concierge team, who checked out the space, chatted with shop owners, and evaluated the seasonal appeal for themselves. The result is a tightly curated collection of hidden gems and beloved local favorites, all based on firsthand experience.
The map features illustrations and columns, making it an enjoyable read in its own right.
In conjunction with the relaunch, a large-format poster of the Concierge Map will go up in the hotel's lobby lounge, accompanied by brochures from featured spots and personal recommendations from hotel staff—creating an information corner designed to spark curiosity and help guests take that first step out into Uji.
About the Concierge Map Series
The Concierge Map is a free publication produced by Cross Hotel Kyoto. Each edition is researched and compiled by the hotel's concierge team, who personally explore areas on foot to identify standout shops and curated walking routes. Aimed at both first-time visitors and seasoned travelers, the series has so far covered Fushimi, Arashiyama/Sagano, Ohara, Kyoto Activities, and other destinations—eight editions in total. Since its launch in 2023, the series has reached a total print run of 40,000 copies, with strong reception from guests both in Japan and overseas.
Concierge Services at Cross Hotel Kyoto
Cross Hotel Kyoto is home to concierges who are members of the Japan Concierge Association. Despite the hotel's casual atmosphere, guests have access to professional-level concierge services—from reservation assistance to information on seasonal events and special viewing opportunities, as well as personalized walking route suggestions based on the day's weather and guest preferences. Pre-trip consultations are also available, not just during a stay.
