Kyoto Riverside Small-Luxury Hotel "Shizuru Kamogawa" Launches Whole-Hotel Private Rental Plan for All 5 Rooms on July 1

Shizuru Kamogawa (Shizuru鴨川), a small luxury hotel and grown-up hideaway nestled on the banks of the Kamo River in Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto, will begin selling a "Whole-Hotel Private Rental Plan" on July 1, 2026, giving a single group exclusive use of all five guest rooms. The plan covers the entire property—including the lounge, private dining & kitchen, and rooftop terrace—for one group at a time. It is built around a stay spent listening to the murmur of the Kamo River and settling into the rhythm of Kyoto, an approach the hotel describes as "immersing in Kyoto."

From "Touring Kyoto" to "Immersing in Kyoto"

Kyoto is home to countless famous sights, yet the moments that linger in a traveler's memory are often the quiet, everyday ones—a morning walk along the Kamo River, the sound of the water heard from a window, the colors of the sky at dusk. Shizuru Kamogawa is designed around this idea of a trip spent immersed in Kyoto: feeling the flow of the river, taking in the local air and the season with all five senses, and quietly blending into the everyday life of the city. This, the hotel says, is its idea of a new kind of luxury.

To bring that vision to life, the hotel created a special guest room, the Kamogawa Noryo-yuka Suite (鴨川納涼床スイート); a guests-only lounge, Tsuji (辻); and a private dining & kitchen, Hokoro (炎ころ). The new Whole-Hotel Private Rental Plan brings all of these together so a single group can experience the entire building.

Quiet Luxury Across a Privately Reserved Hotel

A Space for Stillness — The Lounge "Tsuji"

Named after the "tsuji" (crossroads) where people, town, and water meet and mingle, this guests-only lounge is a calm space wrapped in the warmth of wood and soft light. Guests can relax with a coffee in hand and let their thoughts turn toward the Kyoto stay ahead, giving the visit a gentle sense of pause.

A Taste of Kyoto — Private Dining & Kitchen "Hokoro"

Bring in Kyoto ingredients and gather around a table of your own with the people who matter most. In a refined space where the warmth of wood meets soft tones, guests can take their time over a meal. In addition to bringing your own ingredients, a catering service (arranged separately) is also available, so you can spend a Kyoto evening at a table that feels entirely your own.

Alongside the Kamo River — The "Kamogawa Noryo-yuka Suite"

The noryo-yuka (納涼床), a seasonal feature of Kyoto's summers, is here appointed as a special suite reserved just for hotel guests. With the morning light, the evening sky, and the breeze crossing the water close at hand, guests can spend time in a way unique to Kyoto as the Kamo River shifts through the day.

A note on use: Normally, staying guests can use the lounge Tsuji as a guest benefit, while the private dining & kitchen Hokoro is available for a fee by advance reservation. With the Whole-Hotel Private Rental Plan, a single group has exclusive use of every space in the building.

The Kamogawa Noryo-yuka Suite is a seasonal room, available from May to mid-October.

A Day Entrusted to the Flow of the Kamo River (Sample Itinerary: 3:00 PM Check-in to the Next Morning)

3:00 PM — Unwind in the lounge at the start of the journey.

Afternoon light streaming through the windows gently marks the beginning of your time in Kyoto.

Dusk — Walk along the Kamo River and watch Kyoto turn toward evening.

The colors of the sky reflected on the water shift little by little as the city moves into night.

Evening — Gather around Kyoto ingredients at a table all your own.

Over conversation, savor the Kyoto night at a relaxed pace.

Late night — Only the quiet sound of flowing water remains.

Wrapped in the stillness of Kyoto, drift into a peaceful sleep.

Next morning — Wake with the Kamo River.

Coffee in hand, take in a slow-moving morning.

The riverside where the hotel stands has long, quietly watched over Kyoto's culture and the lives of its people. With just five rooms, it offers a private setting for a restful stay that blends into the everyday life of Kyoto.
