HANAMIYA HOTEL (Hanamiya Hotel), a six-room private boutique hotel, is set to open in Kyoto's Tennocho neighborhood in fall 2026.
Positioned at the heart of Kyoto's culture and arts scene yet away from the city's bustle, the hotel is designed as a base where guests can unwind and experience Kyoto at their own pace.
Overlooking the Kamo and Takase rivers, it brings together Kyoto's traditional craftsmanship, contemporary Japanese design, carefully prepared sushi, and views toward Yasaka Pagoda and Kiyomizu-dera. About a 4-minute walk from Gion-Shijo Station, it offers a quiet, private stay in the heart of the city.
The hotel has six guest rooms in total, with two rooms on each floor. Booking both rooms on a floor turns it into a private floor, creating a residence-like space suited to families, multi-generational travelers, or groups of friends seeking a special stay in Kyoto.
All Six Rooms Reinterpret Kyoto's Traditional Crafts
Each of HANAMIYA HOTEL's six guest rooms is designed as a modern reinterpretation of traditional Kyoto aesthetics, using natural materials, artisan craftsmanship, and understated, refined details to evoke Kyoto without leaning too heavily on convention.
Throughout the hotel, traditional Kyoto crafts such as lacquerware, Kyoto textiles, ceramics, and karakami paper appear in the finishes — deep lacquer surfaces, warm wood tones, and delicate latticework blend naturally into the contemporary, luxurious interiors.
The hotel's overall design was produced in collaboration with Hiyoshiya Craft Lab, run by long-established Kyoto wagasa (traditional umbrella) maker Hiyoshiya. Under fifth-generation head Kotaro Nishibori, Hiyoshiya carries forward traditional wagasa-making techniques while applying new methods to contemporary design and daily life — a philosophy reflected throughout HANAMIYA HOTEL's interiors.
By reconsidering materials and techniques long passed down in Kyoto through a contemporary lens, the hotel aims to let traditional craftsmanship live naturally within the stay itself.
Combining the two rooms on a floor also creates a two-bedroom suite that can accommodate up to 9 guests.
Sushiya Yohei Kyoto: Omakase With Kamo River Views
HANAMIYA HOTEL also houses Sushiya Yohei Kyoto, a sushi restaurant serving omakase courses for both lunch and dinner.
The restaurant is a sister property of Kyoto Saeki, a well-known and highly regarded sushi restaurant in Kyoto, and marks the group's third location. It is led by Takashi Taniguchi, who has served as Kyoto Saeki's head chef since 2018. With more than 25 years of experience as a sushi chef, he is well versed not only in traditional sushi technique but also in selecting ingredients and preparing the vinegared rice that supports each piece of sushi.
Combining that technical skill with a warm, attentive style of hospitality, Taniguchi's approach aims to let guests enjoy not just the food itself but their entire time in Kyoto.
With the Kamo River as a backdrop, the restaurant serves course-style omakase built around sushi and seasonal Japanese ingredients, aiming to offer a distinctly Kyoto dining experience shaped by the season and the surrounding atmosphere.
From May through early October, the restaurant also plans a riverside dining experience inspired by kawadoko, the open-air dining platforms that are a summer tradition in Kyoto. In an open space along the Kamo River, guests can enjoy seasonal dishes alongside the atmosphere of a Kyoto summer.

HANAMIYA HOTEL is operated by Shiki Properties, a company that has been based in Kyoto for more than 11 years, running accommodation and real estate businesses.
The company currently manages more than 50 properties centered on Kyoto, including accommodations set in traditional machiya townhouses and hotels that reflect Kyoto's architectural and cultural heritage. Beyond day-to-day management, Shiki Properties focuses on each property's architecture, history, location, and relationship to its surroundings, working to preserve that individual character while increasing its value.
