Daimaru Kobe Hosts 12th "Kobe-ichi" Market — Retro Parnasse Brand and Apple-Themed Sweets Take Center Stage

The popular "Kobe-ichi (こうべいち)" market is returning to Daimaru Kobe for its 12th edition, running from Wednesday, March 18 through Tuesday, March 24. The event brings together local taste, crafts, and culture from Kobe and the wider Hyogo region, with more than 65 gourmet, sweets, and miscellaneous goods brands gathering under one roof.

Parnasse Restoration Committee Makes Its Daimaru Kobe Debut

One of the highlights of this edition is the first appearance of the Parnasse Restoration Committee at Daimaru Kobe. The committee is dedicated to keeping alive the memory of Parnasse Seika, a confectionery brand that was once beloved across the Kansai region for its Western pastries and piroshki, marketed under the slogan "The Taste of Moscow." The brand's catchy CM song and distinctive characters, Paru-chan and Piro-chan, left a lasting impression on many who grew up during the Showa era.

A Kobe Origin Story

Parnasse actually has its roots in Kobe: in 1947, Matsuo Kotsuno — originally from Kasai City, Hyogo — established the "San'ei Noodle Factory" in Sannomiya, Kobe. At the time, in the difficult post-war period, wheat flour from GHQ supplies was relatively accessible, and by 1948 sugar began to be distributed, paving the way for Western confectionery production.

The Parnasse Restoration Committee brings the Showa-era nostalgia of this Kobe-born brand back to life, with exhibition displays and merchandise for sale. Note that food products will not be sold at this event.
